As a result of the consolidation of the legal framework set forth by the Spanish Digital Signature Act, which came into force on 20 March 2004, businesses and organisations have started up projects for the implementation of the digital signature in various organisational processes. To achieve this, they have based their projects on the only technology with explicit legal backing.

The aim of this case is to examine in detail the practical application of the digital signature in the current framework of Spanish enterprise. Using a preliminary analysis of how it works and its legal framework, the case sets down the bases for students to understand the case and assess the expected impact on the organisation of its various functions: its application in relations with employees, clients and suppliers, and its implications in the development of e-administration.

Author's comments
"In a didactical manner the case outlines the different ways that cryptical systems work in order to enable digital signatures and their applications (encoded, signed, etc.).
At the same time practical examples are explained that were used by nearly all PC users (SSL, file of the income tax return, etc.). Also the existence of lateral risks and possibilities of mitigation is discussed."
